140th running of the KENTUCKY OAKS

 

Thirteen fillies will contest Friday’s $1 million Kentucky Oaks at CHURCHILL DOWNS and favoritism runs through Untapable, an overwhelming 4-5 choice on the morning line. She brings outstanding form into the 1 1/8-mile race and the bay filly will break from the far outside post with regular rider Rosie Napravnik. Also, don’t miss the great undercard, with the La Troienne, Twin Spires Turf Sprint, Eight Belles and the Alysheba Stakes.

Blue Grass Stakes and Arkansas Derby

 

THIS SATURDAY—Kentucky: KEENELAND offers 5 stakes, including the $300k Jenny Wiley and $750k Toyota Blue Grass. Stephanie’s Kitten makes her 2014 debut with Johnny Velazquez in the irons as the 5/2 favorite in the GI Wiley Stakes. She’ll face a field of 10, including 3/1 ML Centre Court at 1 1/16 on turf. The Road to the Kentucky Derby continues with Bobby’s Kitten, ridden by Javier Castellano, opening as the 3/1 favorite over Medal Count, Vinceremos, and Coastline in a talented field of 14 in the 1 1/8 mile GI Blue Grass Stakes.

Still two more great stakes not to miss: OAKLAWN’s $600k Oaklawn Handicap and The Kentucky Derby point qualifying $1 Million Arkansas Derby. In the G2 Oaklawn, Will Take Charge with Luis Saez aboard is the even money favorite and will compete with such talent as Revolutionary and Moreno in a field of 7 at 1 1/8 miles. The G1 Arkansas Derby, Tapiture with Joel Rosario opens at 9/5 and will be dueling against Bayern, Strong Mandate and Commissioner in a field of 9 for 1 1/8 miles.

New York: AQUEDUCT race track sizzles with 4 stakes starting at $300k and topping off with the $1 million Wood Memorial. Three year olds Social Inclusion, Samraat, Harpoon, Uncle Sigh, Kristo and Noble Moon compete for the purse and the prized points in the Kentucky Derby Championship Series against a field of 11. Not to be outdone, SANTA ANITA plays host to 4 stakes of its own, including the Kentucky Oaks qualifier, The $400k Santa Anita OaksRia Antonia, Honey Ride, Fashion Plate and Arethusa race in a field of seven. Spiral Stakes and Sunland Derby

 

TURFWAY PARK hosts 3 stakes races including Saturday’s $550,000 Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati Spiral Stakes (Grade 3) for 3 and 4 year olds at 1 1/8 miles. It will be morning line favorite Tamarando verses a field of 12, which includes We Miss Artie, Poker Player and Almost Famous. Not to be outdone, SUNLAND PARK hosts a total of seven stakes this weekend, featuring the $800,000 Sunland Derby (Grade 3) for 3 year olds. A full field of nine that includes Midnight Hawk, Commissioner, Chitu, Bourbonize and Tanzanite Cat will do battle for 1 1/8 Miles.

Other races to watch: SANTA ANITA’s San Luis Rey Stakes, (Grade 2) $200,000; 4 and up for 1 1/2 Miles (Turf). GULFSTREAM PARK’s  Inside Information Stakes (Grade 2) $200,000; 4 and up at 7 Furlongs. AQUEDUCT’s Excelsior Stakes (Grade 3) $150,000; 3 and up for 1 1/8 Miles. LAUREL PARK’s Harrison E. Johnson Memorial Stakes $100,000; 3 and up for 1 1/8 Miles.
